Active Development
Socializers is a community project in active development. Our data practices are evolving as we build. We’re being upfront about what we collect and why — no corporate doublespeak.
What We Collect & Why
Under GDPR, we need a legal reason to handle your data. Here’s what we collect and the basis for each:
- Your email — for sign-in. That’s it. We don’t sell it or send marketing. Legal basis: contract (you need an account to use the service).
- Your display name — so the community knows who you are. Optional. Legal basis: contract (part of your profile).
- Your likes and saves — so we can show you venues you care about and help Roger make better recommendations. Legal basis: contract (core feature of the service).
- Your conversations with Roger — our AI community manager. These are stored so Roger remembers what you’ve talked about. Roger is powered by Anthropic’s Claude, which means your messages are sent to Anthropic’s servers for processing. Anthropic’s privacy policy applies to that processing. Legal basis: contract (Roger is a core feature).
- Your location — only when you choose to share it via your browser. We use it to show you nearby deals and help Roger recommend spots near you. When you chat with Roger while sharing location, your coordinates are included in the data sent to Anthropic for processing. We don’t track you in the background or store your coordinates in our database. Legal basis: consent (you explicitly allow location access).
- Push notification tokens — if you opt in, we store the endpoint so we can send you deal alerts. Legal basis: consent (you explicitly opt in).
Who Else Sees Your Data
We use third-party services to run this site. Your data passes through them:
- Anthropic (Claude AI) — processes Roger conversations. They see your messages.
- Google Maps — renders the venue map. Google’s privacy policy applies.
- Supabase — our database and auth provider. Stores everything listed above. Supabase’s privacy policy.
- Langfuse — our AI observability tool. We send hashed user IDs and conversation metadata to monitor Roger’s quality. When you delete your account or a conversation, we also delete the associated traces from Langfuse. Langfuse’s privacy policy.
- Vercel — hosts the site. Sees standard web request data (IP, user agent). Vercel’s privacy policy.
Who’s Responsible for Your Data
Socializers (that’s us) is the data controller — we decide what data to collect and why. Our third-party services (Supabase, Anthropic, Langfuse, Vercel) act as data processors: they handle your data on our behalf, under our instructions.
International Transfers
We’re a US-based project and our service providers (Supabase, Anthropic, Vercel, Langfuse) are also US-based. If you’re outside the US, your data crosses borders. These providers maintain Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) and other safeguards to protect data transferred from the EU/EEA/UK.
We Don’t Sell Your Data
Full stop. We don’t sell, rent, or trade your personal information to anyone. Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anyone. This is a community project, not an ad platform.
Cookies
One authentication cookie (sb-*-auth-token) to keep you signed in. No tracking cookies. No ads. No analytics cookies.
Data Retention
We keep your data as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we permanently remove all your data — profile, conversations, likes, preferences, push subscriptions, and associated traces from Langfuse. Backups that might contain your data are rotated within 30 days.
Server logs (IP addresses, request metadata) are retained for up to 90 days for security and debugging, then automatically purged.
Your Data, Your Call
Want your data gone? Delete your account from your profile settings. It permanently removes everything — profile, conversations, likes, preferences, push subscriptions, and AI observability traces from Langfuse. Gone means gone.
Deleting a single conversation also removes its associated traces from Langfuse.
Want to know what we have? Email us and we’ll get back to you.
Minimum Age
Socializers is for adults. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. We don’t knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If we learn we have, we’ll delete it.
Using Socializers
By using Socializers you agree to be a decent human. Don’t spam, don’t harass, don’t post things that aren’t yours. Roger moderates comments — if he rejects something, it’s probably for a good reason.
We can suspend or remove accounts that violate community standards. We’ll try to be fair about it, and you can always reach out if you think we got it wrong.
This is a community project. We’re building it because we love Atlanta’s social scene, not to harvest your data. But we want to be straight with you about what we collect.
Changes to This Policy
If we make meaningful changes to how we handle your data, we’ll update this page and change the “last updated” date at the top. For significant changes, we’ll also notify you through the app or via email. We won’t quietly change things that matter.
